Indexability
Indexability is whether a page is eligible to be stored in a search engine's index and shown in results.
In detail
A page is indexable when it returns a successful response, is not blocked by robots directives, has no noindex tag, canonicalises to itself, and is reachable through internal links.
Break any one of those and the page is invisible, regardless of quality.
Example
A useful guide carrying "noindex, follow" from a staging deployment will never appear in results.
Why it matters
Index blockers are the cheapest and fastest wins in most audits.
Common mistakes
- Leaving development noindex tags on production pages.
- Assuming a page in the sitemap is automatically indexable.
